[Class #2] A Step Closer to Mastery - Kids Learn Side Fall in Taekwondo Class
American Black Belt Academy is a specialized martial arts, Taekwondo, school in Peachtree City for children, always guiding students safely and systematically. Following WE LOVE SPARRING, now it's time for the purple belt and blue belt class. Let's see what these students will be learning in this class.
We first bow to the instructor and then begin the class. Taekwondo always starts with respect and ends with respect.
We do various warm-ups, and today we are warming up with jumping jacks. This simple warm-up helps raise our student's body temperature and sets their mood. While doing jumping jacks, we count in Korean: Hana, Dul, Set, Net, Daseot, Yeoseot, Ilgop, Yeodeol, Ahop, Yeol! Starting from the white belt, students learn to count in Korean, so all students can count from one to ten in Korean.
As you can see in the picture, doing splits is one of our basic warm-ups. Since we do a lot of kicking in Taekwondo, we always stretch our legs before class to prevent injuries. This also helps to improve flexibility. Jacob is focusing on the instructor while doing the splits. By practicing the splits in every class, students will be able to go even lower when they reach advanced levels than what you see in the picture. This enables them to kick higher and control their kicks without injury.
Now it's time to learn the main technic, the side fall. Before learning takedowns, we always learn how to fall safely, which is the breakfall. Before teaching the side fall, the instructor demonstrates how to do it first. The instructor guides the students in a way that is easy to understand, so all the students can learn it easily and have fun.
After the instructor's demonstration, the students are following along. Since the basics are always important, extra attention is given when teaching these fundamental skills to the students.
Before falling to the right side, a female student is demonstrating. Place the hand on the side you're falling on your shoulder, and the opposite hand on your stomach. Keep your legs raised without going past your belt line. Always keep your head up to avoid hitting it on the floor when you fall.
Spencer is demonstrating the side fall. This breakfall is used when falling sideways. It is one of the more difficult breakfalls. The key point when doing a side fall is that the palm and forearm should touch the ground before the upper body, and to prevent the side of the head from hitting the ground, the chin should be tucked into the chest.
In this class, the students learned one of the breakfalls, the side fall. Oh!, there is one more thing, from the purple belt, students learn takedowns, basics of Judo takedowns. Therefore, it is important to learn breakfalls properly to practice takedowns safely and enjoyably without injury. American Black Belt Academy in Peachtree City always emphasizes the importance of mastering the basics and provides proper instruction. Let's continue to train hard and have fun together today!
